THE BLACKCYCLE CONSORTIUM BRINGS TOGETHER FOR A 2-DAY SEMINAR AT THE BEGINNING OF MARCH IN ZARAGOZA

An intensive program to discuss the latest results of the project and a great opportunity to visit two experimental sites of BLACKCYCLE established in Zaragoza.

Since September 2020, Michelin led the BlackCycle project to deal with an upcycling ambition, targeting the creation of a circular economy of the end-of-life tyre (ELT) into technical applications within the tyre industry by producing highly technical secondary raw materials (SRMs) from ELTs.

These SRMs will be used to develop new ranges of passenger car and truck tyres, which will be sold commercially in European and global markets.

At the beginning of March 2022, the 12 partners from 5 different countries (Orion, Ineris, Quantis, Icamcyl, Aliapur, CSIC, CPERI/CERTH, Sisener, Pyrum, Estato, Hera, and Axelera) were welcomed in Zaragoza for a technical meeting. For two days, they discussed intensively the latest results of the project.

The consortium took stock of the latest progress of the program. They brainstormed together and they had constructive discussions to move the project forward.

This meeting was a great opportunity to visit the experimental sites of the two local partners:

  • The CSIC laboratories
  • The SISENER plant dedicated to the awaited TRL7column

SUCCESS STORY

SUCCESSFUL START-UP OF THE TRL 7 COLUMN BY SISENER

TRL7 Distillation column construction has been accomplished and the facility has started its start-up and running trials. The distillation column has been built by reproducing the basic design developed by CSIC within the scope of the BLACKCYCLE project.

The design consists of a total condensing column with reflux, powered by an electrical reboiler integrated in the column body itself.

PARTNER FOCUS

INERIS - FRANCE

Ineris is one of the leading partners of WP9 dealing with ‘Sustainability, techno-economic health and safety assessment’. The role of Ineris in the project is to assess Environmental, Health and Process safety (EHS) potential issues of the Blackcycle value chains and provide support and recommendations for eliminating or mitigating the risks. Ineris is also in charge of the application of the End-of-Waste (EoW) approach and of the analysis of the regulatory status pertaining to the secondary raw materials (SRM) coming from the Blackcyle process and subsequently explores the application of the EoW approach for facilitating the valorization of SRM and their transport. Finally, Ineris will also carry out a cost-benefit analysis (CBA) in order to study the sustainability of the Blackcycle underpinning innovation from an eco.

THE BLACKCYCLE CONSORTIUM IS PLEASED TO ANNOUNCE THE FIRST PODCAST OF THE PROJECT

The BlackCycle consortium is pleased to announce the official release of the first podcast of the project.

This first episode was realized in collaboration with Tyre & rubber recycling. The Podcast was prepared in collaboration with Ewan Scott and Richard Wilson. Ewan Scott has featured the different topics and interviewed two members of the BLACKCYCLE project:

  • Celso Magri, Global Marketing and Sustainability Director Rubber of ORION
  • Ramon Murillo, Scientific Researcher at CSIC and leader of the Environmental Research Group

This podcast will give you keys to get to know the #BLACKCYCLE project better. It will be possible to discover if the development of sustainable Carbon Black from TPO make a real difference, why sustainability is so important for the consortium and also how the project is able to improve the production of Tyre Pyrolysis Oils etc.

Do not hesitate to view the podcast and ask your complementary question to the BLACKCYCLE consortium that would be pleased to answer you.
